Miss L Baker
My name is Louise Baker and I’m the Staff Governor at Peters Hill Primary School. I’ve worked at the school for the past fourteen years and during that time I’ve held both teaching and non-teaching positions. Currently, I’m the school’s Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, a member of the Pastoral Team and the Site Team, so I’m lucky enough to be able to work with children, staff and parents across every year group in the school.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family as well as exercising, reading and gardening.
I hope that my experience and insight into the school will help support the Governing Body in continuing the school’s progress and development.
Mrs J Belcher
I have had the pleasure of being a governor at Peters Hill for over 20 years. Originally appointed as a Local Authority Governor, I am now a Co-opted Governor. As a long serving governor I have seen many changes and developments at Peters Hill including the Headteacher appointments and other senior appointments at the school.
In October 2018 I retired from my role as the Director of Operations and Business at a Dudley LA school, a post I had enjoyed for 34 years. In total I have worked for Dudley LA for 39 years and have experienced many changes and challenges within the education sector during this time, none so great as the support for maintained schools by our local authority.
As a member of the Association of School and College Leaders I enjoyed the opportunity to represent school business leaders on their National Council for over ten years and as a member of their Executive group for four years. I am maintaining my links with ASCL as an Associate member and a Local representative as I see this as an important way of keeping myself abreast with national educational issues which I believe supports my role as a governor.
My other passion in life is swimming, and I am a National Tutor for Swim England and UK Coaching delivering a range of training courses, including school swimming and safeguarding within sport.
With my new found ‘spare time’ I am now enjoying the opportunity to be able to visit the school particularly during the day time and being able to support specific areas of the school. Peters Hill is a wonderful school and I feel very privileged to be a part of its community.
I look forward to being able to support the pupils, parents, staff and all stakeholders as the school continues to develop and prosper and contribute to an environment and culture that enables everyone to be safe, happy and secure.
Mr A Bodin
My name is Adam Bodin and I am a parent governor for Peters Hill. I was born and raised in Stourbridge, returning to the area with my family in March 2021 and therefore moving my son to the school.
I see the opportunity of being a governor at the school as one of great pride, to be able to contribute to the school and my children’s education is something I feel passionately about. The school appealed to myself and my wife as there seemed to be a great atmosphere and ethos that places learning at the heart of every facet of school life at Peters Hill. The provision and opportunities provided to students seems to be one of the best in the area, something I feel all parents should feel grateful for and look to help shape wherever possible.
I am a teacher of sociology and psychology to sixth form students, the experiences that I have from my career may appear to be limited but I am already finding that much of the pressures within the education system are universal across the age ranges. I hope that I am able to be an asset to the school and utilise my skillset as best as possible. I am particularly passionate about helping to remove barriers that students may face to their education as a result of inequality they face within society.
Aside from spending time with my family, my interests are running and rugby. I regularly follow the mighty Leicester Tigers and enjoy running long distance events.
Mr N Foley
My name is Nick Foley and I am a co-opted Governor for Peters Hill Primary School in Stourbridge.
I became aware of Peters Hill Primary School when my wife and I were looking for a school to place our son into a few years ago. I was impressed with the school, the prefects and the progressive approach of the Headteacher (together with the IT and Music provision). Later I learned that the Head was moving on and also that there was a Parent Governor vacancy. I saw this as an opportunity to help the recruitment process, help shape the school life of my 2 children and help in whatever way I can to move the School up to an OFSTED Outstanding School.
I was lucky enough to be voted in as Parent Governor in October 2012 and have to this day continued to contribute heavily to the Governing body and School. I am now a co-opted governor with over 6 year service to the school. I am the ICT and PHSE lead Governor and also the vice-chair of the People, Premises and Finance committee as well as sitting on various other functional committees within the body.
In my day job I am the Head of IT Infrastructure at a local University and I am hoping that some of the skills that I have gained in IT, Projects and Programmes management, HR and Education can help in some way to shape the future of the school.
Mrs S Garratt
My name is Sarah Garratt and I am one of Peters Hill’s parent governors. My family moved to Amblecote when I was 5 years old and that year I started at Peters Hill. I have always lived in the local area, so when my two children were born, Peters Hill was our first choice of school for them and it became part of their lives too.
I am currently a Headteacher in a mainstream primary school. Over the past 24 years, I have taught in schools in Birmingham, Dudley and Sandwell and while my experience spans both KS1 and KS2, my real passion has always been teaching in Early Years. Working with children is a real privilege, they have a way of teaching us the most important things about life that we tend to forget as we get older which is why I appreciate being part of a school community.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy days out exploring new places and anything Disney!
I am really looking forward to working alongside the governors at Peters Hill and to be able to contribute to the future of a school that has played such an important part in my family’s life.
Mrs I Gilhooley (Chair)
I have been a governor at Peters Hill for over 20 years and Chair of Governors for approximately 10 years. I began as a Parent Governor (we have four children who all went to Peters Hill), but I am now a Co-opted governor. I began as a governor with Mrs Johnson, the first Headteacher at Peters Hill so have seen all Headteachers appointments at the school.
I am a retired secondary assistant headteacher, originally PE trained but then worked with children with additional needs. My interests are therefore with sport and children who find difficulty in learning.
My hobbies are golf, badminton, all types of crafts but particularly sewing and DIY
I believe Peters Hill is a great school and I am very lucky to be part of it along with all the children, their families, staff and fellow governors.
Mrs Rose Steedman
I am Rose Steedman and was co-opted in December 2018 and have responsibilities for Inclusion and the Early Years Foundation Stage.
My decision to become a Governor has been inspired by my passion to be aspirational for all children. Having spent 32 years working in the public sector in a diverse and challenging environment I learned to manage a wide variety of situations and engaged with people on all levels and obtained an understanding of the challenges faced by our children, their families and the wider community.
Through my contact with disability groups I have an understanding of the issues faced by children with special needs and am qualified to level 3 in British sign language.
As an energetic and enthusiastic individual I thrive on new challenges and welcome the opportunity to work with the staff, parents, carers, partners and stakeholders at Peters Hill to enable our children to learn, thrive and be nurtured in a safe and secure environment, to ensure they are happy individuals that reach their full potential in life.
Mr A Thomas
I re-joined the governing body in December 2020 as a co-opted governor having previously been a member of the governing body for over 10 years until 2019. I loved being a part of the governing body and was delighted when the opportunity arose to come back!
I am the Business Development Director for Europe and the Middle East for a large retail business and I hope that my commercial, analytical and influencing skills as well as being a good communicator will allow me to challenge and support the team to make Peters Hill a fantastic place for children to start their education. Both of my daughters attended Peters Hill and one is now at King Eds while the other is at University in Lincoln. They both loved their time at Peters Hill and I know that they are very thankful for the role that the school played in preparing them for life in secondary school and beyond.
Outside of work I am a keen golfer and a big football fan. I also love to travel and visit new places both in the UK and abroad – one thing that the last year has taught me is that there is so much to see and do right on our doorstep!
I am really looking forward to working with the governors and the teaching staff to help the school to develop and be a great place to work as well as being the first choice for parents when they are choosing a school for their children.
Miss L Ward
I am a Year 4 teacher, year group leader and a staff governor at Peters Hill Primary School. I have been a staff governor for the past two years and love being involved in all aspects of school life. I am very passionate about my job, and really enjoy being a year group leader in Year 4. I take real pride in driving the standards across our year group and ensuring that children are happy and inspired by the topics we teach them.
Outside of school I enjoy long walks, discovering new places and reading a good book. I am very close to my family and enjoy spending time with them whenever I can. Peters Hill is a great school and I am incredibly proud to work with such lovely pupils and staff.
