Welcome from the Principal

Curriculum

At Peters Hill Primary School we follow the National Curriculum 2014 from Years 1 to 6. The link to this document can be found here - National Curriculum 2014

Our Nursery and Reception children follow the EYFS Development Matters document. The link to this document can be found here - Development Matters.

We follow the Letters and Sounds phonics program. The link to this can be found here – Letters and Sounds.

Across the school we use the Collins Big Cat Reading Scheme and supplement this with books from Oxford Reading Tree.

We also use Kinetic Letters as a fun, active way to support our children's handwriting skills. Further information can be found here – Kinetic Letters.

Each of our Year groups use a key text/book per term. Learning is linked directly to these as we feel that it is vital that all children experience a range of books throughout their time at Peters Hill. A full list of these is available on the key planning document below.

Our Curriculum is assessed using key learning objectives for every subject in school. These objectives are linked to topics that are outlined per year group and per term. This ensures that there is a clear sequence of learning and expectations as the children progress through Peters Hill. All of this information is available in the planning document shown below along with the English and Maths overviews.

This year we have aimed to create a new whole school curriculum that does the following:

Promotes curiosity, enthusiasm and engagement.

Encourages independence and confidence.

Fosters logical, creative and deep thinking.

Nurtures respect for others and personal self-esteem.

Grows an awareness of civic responsibility and global citizenship.

Ensures high standards of behaviour and positive attitudes.

Provides imagination, purpose and value.

Values all abilities, cultures and beliefs.

Embraces innovative technologies.
