At Peters Hill, our EYFS curriculum strives towards the following aims:
•To develop strong relationships so pupils gain a sense of belonging to the community.
•To develop language and communication skills in order to be able to express their “pupil voice” and know they are valued as an individual.
•To be flexible, engaging and varied so that needs, passions and interests are identified, embraced and developed.
•To be ambitious for all and enrich learning through a wide range of opportunities and activities.
•To instill belief and opportunities for children to learn, experiment, investigate and try things out.
•To develop individual care and compassion for themselves and others both recognising and celebrating achievements.
•To encourage respect and tolerance in the world around them and celebrates diversity in the community.
•To underpin learning with a strong foundation of basic skills, knowledge and values including prioritising the development of Reading.
•To recognise children’s prior learning and experiences, providing first hand learning experiences, allowing the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience for an ever changing world.
•To develop a growth mindset approach and become critical, creative and reflective thinkers.
We believe that in the EYFS, all children should:
•Have interests and beliefs recognised
•Be celebrated as part of the community
•Consolidate and deepen knowledge
•Meet their next learning steps
•Be supported by the indoor and outdoor environments
•Achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD)
•Make good progress from their starting points.
•Feel ready for the start of KS1.
