At Peters Hill, our provision aims to ensure that:
Children are able to communicate their ideas and emotions effectively. They will be able to listen to, understand and respond to others appropriately.
Children with specific speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) are identified at the earliest opportunity.
Children with SLCN are supported appropriately through the graduated approach system; namely Universal, Targeted and Specialist provision.
Support
Children with language targets will follow one of the following schemes of work, depending on their age and area of need: WellComm, Get Talking, NELI and WordAware.
Children with speech production targets will follow a step-by-step process recommended by the Dudley NHS Speech and Language Service.
All of the strategies and resources are either recommended/ designed by Speech Therapists or are evidence-based. Children will be regularly reassessed throughout the academic year to ensure that they are making progress.
Where necessary, children will be referred to the Dudley NHS Speech and Language Service for specialist assessment and support. Parental permission will be gained before this takes place. Please refer to the SEND section on the school website for more information.
Further advice and information can be found on the Black Country Children’s Speech and Language Therapy website.
