Welcome from the Principal

Governors

There are 12 members of the governing Board at Peters Hill (you can read more information about each Governor by clicking here or by navigating to 'Us' followed by 'Governor Info'). The board has a breadth of skills and experience.

The board has three core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the effective performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school to ensure money is well spent

It is for these reasons the board is set up as follows:

  • People and finance committee, to oversee the financial performance of the school and ensure money is well spent
  • Curriculum committee, to oversee the curriculum to ensure the children receive a broad and balance curriculum that is both exciting and challenging and meets the needs of all the children at Peters Hill
  • Premises committee, to ensure the environment is a vibrant, safe well-maintained school. It is accessible to all and a vibrant and exciting place to work and for children to learn.

The membership of the board is as follows:

  • Headteacher
  • One LA (Local Authority)
  • One staff, elected by school staff
  • Two parents, elected by parents
  • Seven co-opted, not elected but re appointed by governors on submission of a statement detailing their contribution to governance over the past four years and their envisaged contribution over the next four years.

Governors are appointed for a four-year term and can be re-elected or re-appointed for further terms if they wish to do so.

Governance is a commitment of time and energy. We are very fortunate at Peters Hill to have a committed group of governors who give much time to the school and make a significant contribution to the board.  Attendance at Governor Meetings can be found further down on this page.

Impact of governance:

  • Staffing structure and policies to ensure all children are safe and supported in school

  • A well-planned agreed curriculum to meet DFE requirements but ensure excitement as well as challenge

  • A well-resourced curriculum

  • A school environment that is vibrant, where children come to learn, and adults come to work, all with excitement and enthusiasm.

  • A new MUGA, for school and community use

  • A school with a balanced but increasingly challenging budget
